Group Activity: Virtual group annotation of gene sequence using Miro

Completion requirements

1. Prepare the Gene Sequence

  • Select a Sequence: Choose a gene sequence relevant to your lesson.

  • Format the Sequence: Ensure the sequence is in a readable format, such as FASTA, and divide it into manageable segments for annotation.

2. Set Up the Miro Board

  • Create a New Board: Go to Miro from the provided link.

  • Upload the Sequence: Insert the gene sequence as an image or text box on the Miro board.

  • Add Annotation Tools: Utilize Miro's sticky notes, shapes, and text boxes to highlight and annotate specific regions of the gene sequence.

3. Assign Annotations

  • Distribute Tasks: Assign different segments of the gene sequence to small groups or individual students.

  • Provide Guidelines: Instruct students to identify key features such as promoters, exons, introns, and regulatory regions.

  • Encourage Collaboration: Students can use sticky notes to add comments, questions, or observations about their assigned segments.

4. Facilitate Discussion

  • Review Annotations: After the annotation session, review the Miro board with the class, discussing the identified features and their significance.
